11 PLUS EXAMS
There are many myths around the 11 plus exams. Essentially, the 11 plus exams are a series of tests comprised of Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, Maths and English. Used by Grammar and Independent Schools across the country, they are designed to test potential and determine eligibility among students. Each school plans their own tests, and dates for sitting the exams also vary.
Places are at a premium and competition is keener than ever. As a child, I sat and passed the exams for Dulwich College, Latymer Upper, London Oratory, Westminster, City of London, St. Paul's, Christ's Hospital and St. Benedict's, with three full scholarship award offers and two bursaries. I understand from first-hand experience the pressures that young students experience at this critical stage of their lives. As a former Creative Writing Tutor at Wetherby Prep, I have also taught courses and summer schools and lead a team of 11 plus specialists at Kirkcaldy Bell.
